Our Vision

We see a time when cricket is the most inclusive and widely played team sport on the island - a game that is seen in all our villages, schools, parks, communities and on our beaches!

A Game That Belongs Everywhere

We see a time when cricket is part of the fabric of island life. A time when it’s the most inclusive and widely played team sport on the Isle of Wight - visible not just in club scorebooks, but in school playgrounds, local parks, village greens, community centres, and even on our beaches.

This vision is rooted in place. On an island with close-knit communities and strong local identity, we do what we do because we believe cricket can be a common thread that connects people - young and old, lifelong players and complete beginners, across backgrounds and abilities.

We’re working towards a future where cricket feels available to everyone - where taking part doesn’t depend on who you know, what you can afford, or where you live. A future where the game is easy to find, welcoming to join, and proudly part of everyday life across the island.

That’s the future we see for our sport.

Our Mission

Our mission as the Isle of Wight Cricket Board is to grow a stronger, more inclusive island game - one that reaches further, welcomes more people, and builds from the grassroots up.

Why?

We pursue this mission so that cricket on the Isle of Wight is thriving, visible, and accessible to all - across generations, communities, and abilities.

Because too many people still face barriers to getting involved.

Cost, confidence, location, ability, tradition - these all get in the way.

We want a game that:

  • Makes space for new participants
  • Actively reaches out, rather than waiting to be found
  • Feels welcoming whether you're 8 or 80, returning or brand new
  • Offers different ways to belong, not just one path or model

Because cricket has the potential to connect people who might otherwise never meet.

This is a game that can cross age, background, and experience - if we design it that way.

This means:

  • Family involvement, not just youth participation
  • Disability inclusion that’s visible, structured, and supported
  • Programmes in communities that haven’t traditionally had access
  • A culture of respect, learning and belonging that runs through everything
